As far as NASCAR’s Probst can tell, the testing of Next Gen cars is progressing as expected.
As NASCAR and its Cup Series teams continue to put the Next Gen vehicle through its paces — no pun intended — in preparation for the 2022 season, it appears that the gremlins are being worked out. One of the difficulties was a steering rack issue with the car uncovered during a two-day test on the road course at Charlotte Motor Speedway earlier this month. When the teams complained about the vibration, NASCAR spoke with manufacturers and others in the sports car industry to find a remedy for the problem. NASCAR returned to the Roval last week to test the system and discovered that a component had been inserted to the return line leading back to the reservoir, ultimately resolving the problem. Because of this, I’m feeling a little less stressed as I prepare for a two-day organizing test on the Charlotte oval later this week.
